"Air on the G String" is one of the most famous classical compositions. It was written by Jjohann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) as the second movement of his orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major (BWV 1068). While it was titled just "Air" in Bach's composition, it became later known as "Air on the G String" thanks to an arrangement by August Wilhelmj.
