His Cherokee ancestry on his father's side inspired him to create his stagename, about which he has said "Yela represents light, the sun, power, fire, hunger and Wolf represents my ability to survive…my fierceness." He started getting noticed in 2005 after appearing on the reality tv show Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott. He has collaborated with many popular artists such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran. His album, Radioactive reached 27 on the Billboard 200.
